Sunday, 11th May 2008: A flooded bathroom this weekend means that there will be no new video podcast this week.
The podcast will be back next week although the cost of licensing the official DVD sales chart probably means this feature will have to go.
In the meantime here's a quick 'heads up' on some of this week's new releases:
Shall We Dance? on Blu-Ray. Surprisingly entertaining comedic rom-com starring
Richard Gere and Jennifer Lopez. Man suffering a mid-life crisis takes up ballroom dancing.
Picture quality is absolutely stunning - reference quality even, and disk is recommended for this alone.
Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story on Blu-Ray. Lame, almost scene-for-scene remake of
Walk The Line, but less funny! Frustrating because the cinematography and the
acting are superb, as is the Blu-Ray picture quality. You can buy this as a 2-disc region-free import from
MovieTyme for £14, or (yet again!) get ripped off by paying £4 more for the UK edition which is a single disk
version with half the extra's taken out.
Signs on Blu-Ray. Disappointing M.Night Shayamalan film starring Mel Gibson fails to deliver
on 'strange crop circles' premise. Worse, the print has dirt and a LOT of grain and is so murky there is absolutely
no justification for buying the hi-def version over the much cheaper bargain-bin DVD.
Mr Magorium's Wonder Emporium on standard DVD. Quirky, colourful kids story about a magical
toy shop and its rather odd owner played by a lisping Dustin Hoffman. Tries to deal with the subject of death in a
positive manner, but ultimately comes across as a confusing, incoherent mess. Extra's are much duller than the
day-glo colours would suggest.

It's all change after I've reviewed feedback from the first show. Expect a redesigned web site and something new later this week.
In the meantime here's a "Shipping Sunday" preview of the highlights of what's due in the stores tomorrow (Monday, 28th April 2008).

NB:Because of technical problems around the length of our 'extended' first show, we regret that Show#1 is not available in hi-def format.
We hope to rectify this for Show no.2 which will be released next Sunday, 27th April 2008. Note that there is unlikely to be a show for the week ending 3rd May for reasons too convoluted to go into but we will be back on 10th May.
The show for the week ending Saturday, 19th April contains the following reviews:
